Cinema - Performance - Party
Culver Center of the Arts
Saturday, April 2, 2011, 5pm - 11pm
VOLTA is a threefold, one-night-only event - a film festival, followed by an evening of live performance, and concluded with a DJ'd dance party - at the Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts in Riverside, California. VOLTA, the closing celebration of the 18th annual (dis)junctions Conference at the University of California, Riverside, is a FREE event and welcomes the Riverside community at large.
VOLTA: film festival - 5:00-7:30 pm - Showcases digital shorts and experimental films by student, faculty and independent filmmakers in southern California and beyond in the Culver Center's state of the art screening room.
VOLTA: live performance - 7:30-9:00 pm - Features UCR graduate students presenting an array of original live performance. Short dance, music, storytelling, spoken word and live art installations will be staged in multiple site-specific locations throughout the Culver Center's spacious two floors.
VOLTA: dance party - 9:00-11:00 pm - Invites all filmmakers, performers, (dis)junctions participants and audience members to dance, mingle and enjoy drinks and refreshments provided in the Culver Center's magnificent atrium gallery.
VOLTA's films and performances all respond to (dis)junctions 2011's theme, "En Route to a Nueva Movida". (dis)junctions is a graduate student conference hosted by the UCR's Department of English. The 18th annual conference will take place on UCR's campus on April 1 and 2, featuring a keynote address by Dr. Richard T. Rodriguez from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
